POSITIVE EATING

What are the first things you look for on any given nutrition label?  If I had to guess it would be some key factor that a fad diet (! I hate that word!) has trained you to look for (carbs, fats, calories, ect). If you are like most, you see that one thing you’ve been trained to stay away from and for the most part, don't give the rest of the stats a chance. "So what if it has 2 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein, I'm not eating 20 grams of carbs."  ...sound familiar?

Stop and think about this for a minute. What have diets trained us to do?  Focus on NEGATIVE things that you CANNOT have.  Why do that to yourself?

What do I suggest instead?

POSTIVE EATING!!!

Retrain yourself to first examine the positive aspect on the nutrient label and let those things help you decide whether you should eat that food or not.

Instead of thinking – I can only have x amount of carbs, fat or whatever a day…..why not switch it around and tell yourself that you want to consume x amounts of unsaturated fat, fiber, protein, vit A, calcium, etc… a day.

I thing that by default in making your decision based on these positive attributes, you’ll naturally gravitate towards foods that are more nutrient dense anyway.  And not to mention, positive thinking can do wonders for your mood!

Positive eating=focusing on what you CAN have, not what you CANNOT have.

What positive eating has done for me, and what I hope it will do for you, is keep me excited about food in every way shape and form in this diet-obsessed world.
